Study Permits
Pursue world-class education in Canada and build a pathway from international student to permanent resident.
Studying in Canada
Canada is home to some of the world's most respected universities and colleges, and a Canadian education is recognized globally. International students benefit from high-quality instruction, multicultural campuses, and unique pathways to permanent residence after graduation.
A study permit is required for most international students planning to study in Canada for programs longer than six months. The application process involves demonstrating acceptance at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI), proof of financial support, and meeting admissibility requirements.
Designated Learning Institutions
What Is a DLI?
A Designated Learning Institution is a school approved by a provincial or territorial government to host international students. You must have a letter of acceptance from a DLI before applying for a study permit.
Choosing the Right DLI
Not all DLIs are equal when it comes to post-graduation pathways. We help you select a program and institution that aligns with your long-term immigration goals, including PGWP eligibility.
Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL)
As of 2024, most study permit applicants require a Provincial Attestation Letter confirming their program is within the province's international student allocation. We guide you through this additional requirement.

After completing an eligible program at a DLI, you can obtain an open work permit for up to 3 years, gaining the Canadian work experience needed for PR programs.
Canadian Experience Class
With 1+ year of skilled Canadian work experience gained on a PGWP, you can apply through the Canadian Experience Class under Express Entry for permanent residence.
Provincial Nominee Programs
Many provinces, including Alberta and Manitoba, have streams specifically for international graduates. A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points under Express Entry.
